Barriers to Youth Participation

NWDYC identified poor communication of available opportunities, lack of transportation, limited access to trained leaders, minimal financial support, and the lack of a community plan or vision to connect families to needed resources as key barriers that limit enrollment in organized sports and extra-curricular programs.

Board of Directors

NWDYC is organized through a volunteer, community-based board of directors. The board oversees, coordinates, monitors, and assures accountability. Youth advocates, including teachers, social workers, clergy, retired principals, company executives, and clergy devote their lives to the positive growth and development of Detroit youth.
